Hello Advent Family,

Have you ever noticed that your relationship with God is not always easy?  Maybe there are times of struggle, times when sin seems more present and God feel far away.  Maybe times where you feel stuck.  Peter encourages us to continue to strive to move forward in our faith journey.  Let’s look at his words in 2 Peter 1 together today.

His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires. For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love. For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Peter gives us a list of “add-ons” to our faith to help us along the way.  I find it interesting that many of these are actually also referred to as the fruit of the spirit.  It seems the more we are seeking God in our journey the more present these things are in our lives.  Peter stresses the urgency of this task, not to earn favor with God, but so that we will attract others to join us on this journey of faith.   May we all strive to add on goodness, knowledge, self-control, perseverance, mutual affection, and of course love as we walk this faith journey of life.

In His Grip,
Pastor Dave
