the godly often die before their time.
But no one seems to care or wonder why.
No one seems to understand
that God is protecting them from the evil to come.
2 For those who follow godly paths
will rest in peace when they die. Isaiah 57:1-2
The person who wants peace will find it in death is a troubling statement from the Bible. Yet it serves as a reminder that it is not enough to do the right thing in an evil world. Making a difference in this world is challenging that which is wrong.
During World War II Churchill was quoted saying, “This is the lesson: never give in, never give in, never, never, never, never—in nothing, great or small, large or petty—never give in except to convictions of honour and good sense…”
The nation of Israel during Isaiah’s time had descended into idolatry and debauchery. It had lost its moral compass. Isaiah received a calling from God.
“Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” And I said, “Here am I. Send me.!” Isaiah 6:8
- L. Moody wrote the following words next to this verse in his Bible: “I am only one, but I am one. I cannot do everything, but I can do something. What I can do, I ought to do, and what I ought to do, by the grace of God I will do.”
May you choose to be the one over peace. May you choose to stand for what is right and never give in for what is convenient or does not cause trouble with those around you.
